Streetartstar Shepard Fairey realisiert 23. One Wall in Berlin
Der weltbekannte Streetart-Künstler Shepard Fairey hat in Berlin-Schöneberg ein Fassadenbild mit unmissverständlicher Botschaft umgesetzt. Die Idee ist in Zusammenarbeit mit der Künstlerischen Leiterin der URBAN NATION, Yasha Young, entstanden.
Sehr geehrte Damen & Herren –
die vom Streetart-Künstler, Grafiker und Illustrator Shepard Fairey gestaltete Wand kann in der Froben-/Ecke Schwerinstraße in Berlin-Schöneberg bestaunt werden. Mit der klaren Botschaft „NO Future für Apathie! Ignoranz! Sexismus! Fremdenfeindlichkeit! Rassismus!“ nimmt das Kunstwerk bewusst Haltung zu aktuellen und öffentlichen Diskussionen an und möchte Betrachter zum Nachdenken einladen.
„Als wir gemeinsam die Idee für das Mural erarbeiteten, wurde die Welt gerade wieder einmal von Gewalttaten und weltpolitischen Entscheidungen erschüttert. In den 15 Jahren, in denen Shepard Fairey und ich zusammenarbeiten, hat er stets Position für Menschenrechte und Werte bezogen.“ sagt Yasha Young, Künstlerische Leiterin der URBAN NATION und Initiatorin des One Wall-Projekts.
Mit der 23. One Wall wird auf einer 15 mal 18 Meter großen Fassade Aufmerksamkeit auf gesellschaftliche Probleme gelenkt und Intoleranz konsequent verurteilt. „Keine Zukunft für negative Kräfte! Die Kunst überbringt die Botschaft und über unsere digitalen Plattformen schaffen wir als URBAN NATION einen Multiplikatoreffekt“, erklärt Young. Der URBAN NATION geht es bei diesem Fassadenwerk besonders darum Menschen zu animieren, sich mit der Gesellschaft auseinanderzusetzen, um ein tolerantes und offenes Miteinander zu ermöglichen. Die grundlegende Leitidee des zukünftigen URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART, welches im Herbst 2017 eröffnet, lautet dementsprechend ‚Connect., Create., Care.‘.
Ein Meister der Urban Art
Shepard Fairey, der für URBAN NATION bereits im Jahr 2014 ein Mural am Mehringplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg gestaltet hat, wird von vielen als Urheber der modernen urbanen Kunstszene gefeiert und gilt auch in der stets technisch billanten Ausführung als Meister seines Faches. Weltbekannt durch seine eindringlichen und ikonischen Werke, die zumeist ein Mix aus Parodie und Protest sind, fiel er einem größeren Publikum erstmals Ende der Achtzigerjahre durch seine omnipräsente „Obey-Giant“-Stickerkampagne auf. Der „Hope“-Holzschnitt für Barack Obama machte ihn vor einigen Jahren einer breiten Masse bekannt.
Über die Projektreihe „One Wall“
Unter dem Motto „One Wall – eine Wand, eine Botschaft“ gestalten international bekannte und aufstrebende Künstler die Fassade eines Gebäudes an prominenten Plätzen in Berlin. Jedes Bild vermittelt eine künstlerische Position: Die Künstler setzen sich mit der Umgebung auseinander und gestalten daraufhin ein individuelles Werk. 23 „One Walls“ von internationalen Künstlern wie Onur (Schweiz), Don John (Dänemark), Shepard Fairey (USA), HERAKUT (Deutschland), Phlegm (Großbritannien), Li Hill (Kanada) und PixelPancho (Italien) sind bereits entstanden.

Über URBAN NATION – MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART
URBAN NATION ist eine internationale Institution für Künstler und Projekte, die im Herbst 2017 als Museum neue Maßstäbe setzen wird. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Förderung junger Künstler der Urban Contemporary Art. Seit Ende 2013 lädt URBAN NATION unter der Kuration und Direktion von Yasha Young in regelmäßigen Abständen lokale und internationale Künstler sowie Kuratoren nach Berlin ein, um urbane Räume künstlerisch zu gestalten und ihnen positive Impulse zu geben. Street Art Star Shepard Fairey realizes the 23rd One Wall in Berlin
The world-renowned street artist Shepard Fairey has created a façade painting with an unambiguous message in Berlin-Schöneberg. The idea was implemented in cooperation with the artistic director of URBAN NATION, Yasha Young.
The wall painted by street artist, graphic artist and illustrator Shepard Fairey can be admired at the corner of Frobenstrasse/Schwerinstrasse in the Berlin district of Schöneberg. With its clear message “NO Future für Apathie! Ignoranz! Sexismus! Fremdenfeindlichkeit! Rassismus!” (“NO Future for Apathy! Ignorance! Sexism! Xenophobia! Racism!”) the artwork consciously takes a stance on current and public debates, encouraging observers to think about the issues.
“As we got together to work on the idea for the mural, the world was again shaken by acts of violence and political decisions with global implications. In the 15 years in which Shepard Fairey and I have been working together, he has always taken the side of human rights and values,” says Yasha Young, artistic director of URBAN NATION and initiator of the One Wall project.
The 23rd One Wall is a 15-x-18-meter façade that unmistakably draws attention to social problems and intolerance. “No future for negativity! Art delivers the message and using our digital platforms, URBAN NATION can achieve a multiplier effect,” explains Young. With this façade art, URBAN NATION aims to animate people to reflect on society in order to enable tolerant and open-minded co-existence. Accordingly, the fundamental motto of the new URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART, which is due to open in fall 2017, is ‘Connect. Create. Care.’
A Master of Urban Art
Shepard Fairey, who already painted a mural at Mehringplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg for URBAN NATION in 2014, is considered by many as one of the originators of the modern urban art scene and is also regarded as a technically brilliant master of his art. He gained world fame for his striking and iconic works, which are usually a mix of parody and protest. He first grabbed the attention of a wider audience in the 1980s with his omnipresent “Obey Giant“ sticker campaign. His “Hope“ engraving for Barack Obama a few years ago made him famous among an even broader mass of people.
About the Project Series “One Wall”
Under the motto “One Wall – One Message,” internationally renowed and up-and-coming artists redesign facades at prominent locations around Berlin. Each image transports an individual artistic position. The artists assess the surroundings and design their own works accordingly. 23 “One Walls” have already been created by international artists such as Onur (Switzerland), Don John (Denmark), Shepard Fairey (USA), HERAKUT (Germany), Phlegm (United Kingdom), Li Hill (Canada) and PixelPancho (Italy).
About URBAN NATION – MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART
URBAN NATION is an international institution for artists and projects that will be setting new standards with a new museum from autumn 2017. The main focus is on promoting young exponents of urban contemporary art. Since late 2013, URBAN NATION, directed and curated by Yasha Young, has been inviting local and international artists and curators to Berlin at regular intervals to redesign urban spaces and give them some positive artistic momentum. Hence, the public non-profit space benefits from an inspiring exchange between established and up-and-coming creatives. URBAN NATION is part of the non-profit foundation Berliner Leben.
